Hallelujah and cover versions

I was distracted by Youtube last night rather late and found Leonard Cohen's original of Hallelujah. Here it is

What I hadn't realised was that in 1983 Sony didn't want him to put the album out becuase they didn't think it was commercial. Not only did the album have Hallelujah but also Dance me to the end of love. Rubbish eh? That sounds  the typical of record company executives.

And then on this interview with Q magazine he mentioned how moved he had been by KD Lang's rendition of Hallelujah. He talks about it from 34 minutes in.  So I went looking for that. I don't know if this is the one but it is stunning. A cover doesn't have to be less than the original. comfort for those of us who sing a lot of covers!
