global education

Had the last of my face to face sessions with the students from the IE Business school today. Several conversations were had and I remain amazed by how diverse are the problems which entrepreneurs are having to face. One of these conversations was about using digital media channels to grow an education based business. I was staggered to find training taking place for 5,000 students at a time. In venues the size of small stadiums. China alone produces 14 million nurses a year. It had never occurred to me how these kinds of numbers of students can be processed. Not one to one for sure. This is partly because healthcare is a global business and costs have to be kept low. With a job that requires skills but which can be practiced anywhere round the world. Become a nurse and you will travel.

The other abiding impression was a frank discussion about teaching styles -which of course vary across cultures. British professors don't like confrontation so don't give a clear point of view in a public forum… noted!
