Visiting Jackie

I've blogged a couple of times about Jackie Morris, her blog, her work as a painter and illustrator and her life as she photographs it in Pembrokeshire. I discovered her work through happenstance when we were last in St Davids. And for my last (big) birthday my family gave me one of her prints which now hangs in the bedroom. I've put in the full res image so click on the thumbnail to look at the print in more detail.

This time she very graciously invited us to drop by her cottage. Where over a cup of tea we were able to enjoy the original paintings from which the prints were taken, her menagerie of ginger cats and she showed us her next 2 books in draft form – wonderful illustrations of dragons hatching from dragons eggs – each one different.  My snap of Jackie for that is all it was as we left I am thoroughly embarassed by because there is Jackie with her Nikon SLR round her neck with which she takes mighty photos.

And we shot off down to Whitesands beach- missing the sunset but catching the dusk. Celts have a thing about the sea and looking to the West and this captures all of that for me – beyond these shores – metaphor for exploration, discovery, death,  monks leaping into the coracle and throwing the paddles away waiting to see where the sea would take them (And to give credit – who says the iphone can't take a decent picture?)
