Bye bye DRM

Apple blinked today. And I knew they would so I'm a litle grumpy I hadn't got around to saying so first. Since Amazon started to sell mp3s without copy protection at a lower price it was inevitable that Itunes would do the same. It has been possible to buy DRM free tracks from Itunes for a while but only at a premium. This really is the nail in the coffin for music copyright.  So I look forward to the battles on the next frontier of the broadcast TV and film. I'm not for the abolition of all copyright but the attempts by the music companies to defend their business have been ineffectual and made them look bad. Stick the money on the tickets for live gigs and make the music widely available.  And once we have paid for something let us use it without making our lives difficult.
