Its World Cup time and Germany has gone all out. There was balles mit alles – I counted 20 in the inflight magazine, margerine footballs with the airline meal with chocolate footballs and a playable penalty shootout for afters. I even spotted footballs on the nose cones of the planes. Plus Mastercard handouts of the World Cup schedule. All this enthusiasm was infectious, thoroughly endearing and free from the tribalism with which England fans follow the game. Making me wonder what will happen when the Olympics hits London in 2012. Will we go so far? Or will fear of lawsuits from the major sponsors restrain the volume of Olympic collateral?
